"We practice chhaupadi during menstruation. When it is a first time we send our daughter to a neighbour’s house. It is believed that she is not supposed to see anyone from her family. If it happens it will bring bad luck on the family. The practice of chhaupadi is from old times and we still follow it. Menstruation women are not supposed to drink cows milk because it’s used to worship god so it should be pure. I get surprised when we hear some women die during menstruation in west Nepal. Maybe they don’t get proper care. Here we don’t keep our women in the cowshed. They have a separate room with all the stuff they needs: food clothing, a bed. They get proper rest during periods. I don’t force anyone to work if they not feeling well. I know how painful period’s cramps can be.
Today's generation do not want to practice chhaupadi, it’s up to them. We can’t force them. I think if women are well treated and cared for during their periods its okay to practice. Why to mess with tradition we have all been following from generations if none is discriminated"?Pokhara
