When I was on my first menstruation I slept inside the house. My father was educated and he was against it so me and my Mother slept inside the house. For three or four time I slept inside house. But all of sudden my grandfather started trembling and it was blamed on me and my mother because we touched everything inside the house. Then we were sent back to the Chaupadi hut. It has been 3 years since I have been living inside the chaupadi hut. My dad is in India now if he was here we might not have to sleep outside.

Do you believe god is doing everything?

When I saw my grandfather trembling I was scared. I have to believe it because once they worship god everything was good again. Nobody in the neighbour will support us so we have to follow it. If we will have headache during menstruation people will say that’s because we don’t care about anything during chaupadi that’s why god is upset. It seems like women are all the cause of all the problems. We can’t talk confidently about the problems we are facing. Nobody cares. It is like living in a jail as we don’t even have a good room. If such huts are well equipped with all the facilities I wouldn’t have any problems sleeping there but there is nothing. Accham
